Family Update

This is Rachel once again writing. Last Thursday night, I was moved up to the recovery room, and then Kara and I were discharged Friday afternoon. It was a bit of a rocky first few days at home--I still felt tired and sore from labor and the surgery (and the 8 bags of blood I was given!), but my family has been a huge help, and we were able to get in to a routine (sort of).

This Thursday morning, I noticed that Kara had a cough and a sneeze along with congestion. We had an appointment on Friday with our pediatrician to check her weight, so we asked him about her cold symptoms then. He told us she looked ok, but gave us some signs to watch for. Unfortunately, by Saturday night, she had gotten considerably worse and had developed all of the signs we were told to watch for. We took her in to the ER last night at 10, and they moved us up to the pediatric care unit at about 3:30 this morning. She tested positive for RSV and bronchiolitis (she most likely picked up the RSV at the hospital after she was born), and is currently hooked up to oxygen and an IV to keep her from getting dehydrated because she hasn't been eating much. Thankfully, her case is not as bad as some of the cases they've seen, and by frequently "vacuuming" the mucous build up in her nose and keeping her on oxygen, they expect her to start improving over the next day. It has been really hard to see our little baby hooked up to so many machines, but I am thankful that she hasn't developed a worse case and that we took her in when she did. We have had a ton of support from friends and family, and we are hoping to be able to go home with her Tuesday. I will be glad when we can get home and try to finally get settled.

We will keep the blog updated as best we can when we know more, but we are hopeful that today was the worst of it and that Kara will start turning around tomorrow. We are glad to have our family and friends close by to help us out and give us such wonderful support.

Aftermath

Hi all. Well Rachel just got out of surgery a little bit ago and things are looking up...her bleeding has virtually stopped....now it's just a normal light bleed now. She is going to stay here in the ICU tonight and then be transferred up to the normal after birth recovery room tomorrow morning.

Bug-Battle

I've been fighting this nasty bug all week. It is FINALLY starting to go away, but I'm still hanging on to the sore throat and the head congestion. It is DEFINITELY not fun!

Unfortunately, that also means I haven't done anything I've wanted to do all week! I didn't watch Bricen this week (although I'll be watching her today in just a little bit), and I have had hardly any time for sewing/chores. I've pretty much laid in bed all week, and our house is a DISASTER! I am not looking forward to Saturday afternoon when I have to clean it after the swim meet.

Anyway, that's all that's been going on at our house the last several days (other than anxiously awaiting pictures of our new niece!) I hope next week is much better!

34 Weeks and Counting

Here is a picture of me a few days ago, for those of you that would like to see how HUGE I've gotten to be! (My dad says I just eat too much cake :) )

Anyway, nothing else new and exciting. Jon got me pretty sick with some flu-bug, so I've spent the last 3 days feeling pretty icky, but the worst of it was today, so I'm hoping that means that I'll be all better by tomorrow morning! I had to cancel swim practice since I felt so awful, and a bunch of kids were worried that I had the baby--No baby yet!

Yesterday, even though I felt fluish, I went over to my mom's and sewed some baby stuff for my sister-in-law and for myself. Pretty soon, I'll be sewing for Jon's little sister as well because she is ALSO going to be having a baby later this year! I can't believe how many babies/pregnant women I keep seeing! It's insane!

And on that note, I have a feeling that 6 weeks (or less) is going to be here before I know it! We're excited, but we know we're in for some BIG changes around here!
